¡¡¡¡Currently, stainless steel is of great demand on China's steel product market, but a big gap exists between its demand and supply, resulting in a need to import a large quantity of stainless steel products from other countries. In 2001, the apparent consumption of China's stainless steel reached 2.25 million tons, an increase of 30% over that of the year 2000, enabling China to surpass America and become the world largest stainless consuming country. In the first half of this year, the apparent consumption of stainless steel has already reached 1.4 million tons, and it is estimated that the consumption of the whole year of 2002 may well surpass 2.8 million tons. In a sharp contrast to this great domestic demand, China's stainless steel industry is still lagging behind the world advanced level of its counterparts in terms of production techniques, downstream processing technology, application and development, product variety as well as product quality.

¡¡¡¡In conjunction with the 3rd International Stainless Steel Exposition (STEXPO), the 3rd China International Stainless Steel Congress 2003 will be held in Shanghai during the Sept.26-28, 2003 period, creating the forum for Sino-foreign discussion of various subjects of interest, such as stainless steel production & trade, supply & demand, marketing & pricing, product application, technological R & D, downstream processing, raw materials supply & procurement, etc., with special emphasis being laid on the market prospect and development trend of China's stainless steel industry. The previous 2nd China International Stainless Steel Congress 2001 has been hailed as a big success, with over 200 participants representing China, France, Austria, Germany, ROK, Luxembourg, Russia, Canada, Finland, Italy, South Africa, America, Belgium, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, etc.

¡¡¡¡Industrial experts representing worldwide stainless steel producers, traders, research & consulting institutions, technology & equipment providers, raw material suppliers, government organizations, etc. are warmly welcomed to air their expert opinions at the 3rd China International Stainless Steel Congress 2003 and to actively participate in the event. Registered STEXPO exhibitors are strongly recommended to apply for technical presentations at the Technical Workshops of the Congress.
