In recent
25 years, the world stainless steel industry has witnessed rapid
growth with output shooting up to 28.36 million tons in 2006 from
mere 6.435 million tons in 1981. China, with an output of 5.3 million
tons, was again one of the major driving forces for the world stainless
steel production in 2006; the forecasted figure for the year 2007
is 6.5-7 million. China consumed 5.95 million tons of stainless
steel apparently in 2006, with import and export at 2.5 million
tons and 0.9 million tons respectively. With an already established
capacity of around 10 million tons, forecasts for further output
improvement and consumption increase are very optimistic. While
the development of China's stainless steel industry is facing the
same problems as its world counterparts facing: rocketing price
for major raw materials, product quality improvement and new product
developing, over-accelerated capacity expansion and booming, difficulties
in expanding application fields. All of these topics and more will
be discussed at the "5th China Int'l Stainless Steel Congress
2007".
About the
congress
