China Iron and Steel Association (CISA)

Metallurgical Council of CCPIT

Background and Content

China International Steel Congress, organized biennially by CISA and MC-CCPIT, is a high-level conference focusing on the profound, overall and strategic issues facing the steel industry. Since its establishment in 2000, the congress has been successfully held for four times and has become one of the most important steel events in the world. The 4th China International Steel Congress held in Beijing in April 2006, brought together over 1,000 delegates from 25 countries and regions.

Along with the continuous growth of the world economy, the world steel makers have experienced an unprecedented growth in the past several years. At present time, the economic and social development is increasingly constrained by resource shortage and environmental protection, and the living environment of the humankind is under more and more severe challenge. To strengthen resource conservation and environmental protection has become one of the most important tasks facing the human society. Transforming growth mode and building up resource-conserving and environment-friendly steel industry has become the most important subject of the global steel community. We therefore defined Green Steel as the theme of the 5th China International Steel Congress.

The Congress will include a Plenary Session on June 2 and several Technical Seminars from June 3 to 4. The Plenary Session will be conducted in the form of panel discussions, covering political and economic environment, restructuring, technological innovations and green application of steel. The panelists invited include the Chairmen (or CEOs) of Arcelor Mittal, Nippon Steel, POSCO, US Steel, ThyssenKrupp, Tata Steel, Severstal, Baosteel, Ansteel, WISCO, Shougang, Tangshan Steel, Taiyuan Steel, Shasteel and Valin Group, etc. The Technical Seminars, held in conjunction with Metal+Metallurgy Expo, will present the state-of-the-art green technologies in iron-making, steel-making, continuous casting, hot rolling, cold rolling and casting. Metal+Metallurgy Expo will take place from June 3 to 6, 2008 at Shanghai New International Expo Center.

Call for paper

Speakers of the Plenary Session are specially invited by the congress organizers. Experts interested in the topics of the congress are welcome to submit paper to the congress organization office. High quality papers will be printed and circulated to the delegates.
